Coffee, almond, dark chocolate bark

This recipe is inspired by an amazing food blogger, Chinmayie, who celebrates vegetarian food and tries to make it extra healthy, she loves creating treats that are simple and easy to make. Her photos are amazing and its a great opportunity to share a wonderful treat with COFFEE in it, that is simply different.

Here blog is here: http://www.lovefoodeat.com/coffee-roasted-almond-chocolate-bark/

Here is the simple recipe:

Ingredients:
  • 300 grams of dark chocolate
  • 1/2 cup roasted almonds, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 to 1 tbsp instant coffee powder.

Line a chopping board with silver foil and keep it aside.
Finely chop the chocolate and melt it in a double boiler. I used a bowl placed on a pot of boiling water to do this. When the chocolate fully melted, add the instant coffee powder and stir well. Add about 1/4 cup of the nuts and mix it.
Pour the chocolate and nut mixture on to the silver foil lined board. Spread it into a layer of about 1/2 cm thickness. Let it harden. I keep it in the refrigerator to harden them faster. It can take 6-8 hours to harden at room temperature.
Once hard, break it into small pieces and store them in an airtight container.

The taste of all the coffee, chocolate & nuts is amazing! Defiantly looking forward to making this again, I couldn't post any pictures as I still am without my iPhone....

enjoy xx

Fashion statement.

Storm, is my new retail store that I'm currently working in.  Its a New Zealand brand and made clothing boutique, its stunning, unique and always on form for the latest style.

Check it out, its called Stormonline.com

In the next seasons line, we are seeing a lot more grey, marvel, golds and sequins, which is my ultimate favourite set of colours.

Cannot wait to start earning a bit more cash, to afford some of these gems. We also supply New Balance shoes which are defiantly a favourite and comfortable for a long day in retail.

something I've learnt this week. while I worked only three days in a row last week, my body completely crashed afterwards, I spent the next three days in bed. I'm not sure if I had caught a bug or if my body was running low. But I learnt that it's so crucial to take a step back if you can and listen to your body. My default is to just keep going and don't stop. But having a lot of time off lately has made me appreciate the time we have, when we prioritise it properly.

Three things I changed it up this week, that I did to listen to my body.

1. Ironically, I stopped drinking coffee. I was drinking a little too much that I needed three solid days without it, and unusually I was feeling off towards it. I felt good to come off it slightly, and today I had my first one and it was great. All I needed was the one, and I fuelled my body with water and fruit and light snacks to help come back into reality as I worked today.

2. I forced myself to sleep, as funny as that sounds, I actually find it hard getting back to sleep after I'm already awake, I can't usually sleep in, because once I'm up, I'm up! So I took the effort to get back to sleep in the mornings and had a nap in the afternoons as well. It helped my headaches and tired body.

3. I spent less time on social media then I ever have before, I didn't check Instagram, and very often did I check Facebook. I didn't feel the need, as I wasn't in the mood to socialise thru that way. It all felt so refreshing not having to use my phone or laptop to 'check in' on everything.

Overall I felt like a new person, and I guess sometimes we need to just simply listen to our bodies, as they know us best!

Heres a little preview of our other engagement shoot that we won, it was such a fun day!
Next post I'll link both our 1st and 2nd engagement photo shoot! Both show such different views, and are so awesome! Cant wait to show you.

LUSH Product Haul

For the past four months I've completely changed my skin care routine and gone for more of a natural feel to my routine. Lush was a store that was recommended to me by some girlfriends, and once I went in for a demo, I was hooked. The lady that served me the first time I went in, she was just simply incredible.

She took the time to get to know how my skin worked, what kind of cleanser I was after and what products would work best for me. She explained also what type of ingredients were in the different products, how it can help my skin and what other products will work well with it.

So for the past four months I've lived on three products,

1. ANGELS ON BARE SKIN
This cleanser was super easy to put on and after I used it, I felt like I had a great clean of my whole face. It even scrubbed off my heavy eye makeup and concealer. The great thing about this product, it has both lavender and rose oil in it, which calms the face and my redness. I felt the smell was perfect in the shower and I loved how it left my face feeling so smooth, through using natural products.

2. EAU ROMA WATER

This toner is perfect for my combination skin, especially when it feels tight after a cleanse, it relaxes the skin and removes any other oil sitting on top of the skin. Its such a refreshing toner and it is so easy to use. I use makeup pads to wipe the toner with, for an overall coverage, I spray directly onto my face and then wipe away with my makeup pads.

3. COSMETIC LAD

This moisturiser is known to be used by men, for after shaving. But wait, it was bought to my attention that this moisturiser can be used for girls as well. This very reason, being that it helps with tightness and redness of the skin, which I have in my cheeks and chin.
This has been such an amazing base for my makeup, and I feel like I'm covered and you only need such a tiny amount to cover the whole face. I highly recommend this product out of all of them, as this moisturiser has never left me oily, like so many other products have, its also covered well for my dry areas on my face.

Just recently I met an amazing girl, who works with my husband and she use to work at Lush for three years. She bought me back to her place the other day, and gifted me a whole lot of Lush products, well over $200 worth. I'll do another post about these products, like the shampoo, BIG, which has made my hair feel amazing and feel lifted so much. Oh and the Rose shower gel, OMG, I still could smell it on my by the end of the day.

These products are the real deal! Go check them out. BEST products, knowing its vegan, animal testing free and mostly natural products.

What are you waiting for?

Its already nearly MARCH. Have you got that? MARCH? Where has the year gone. This year I decided to not make those new year resolutions like most years. I hate the idea of getting inspired for like a week and go back to normal habits of life. I decided to change it up a little. I've decided to embrace each month and pick three things to work on for that month.

As (January) was leading and preparing for our wedding, I was committed to healthy eating, making time to write down things so I would remember and taking the time to spend it with friends that matter.

February. A few days after our wedding we moved to Napier, and I wrote down three things I wanted to do and work on while I was new to the city.

1. Make the most of the time off, read a book, go for a walk, explore Napier

2. Be intentional with the people you meet, if you like them and see a that it could be a friendship thats healthy, make an effort to get to know them

3. Forget the things that don't matter. For most of us, we can linger thinking of the what if's and the things we've made mistakes with. I've come to decide that those things really affect your future and I had written down some things I didn't want to hold onto, and how I was going to do that. So far, Ive completed over half of them, and I've seen myself be able to trust more and believe for greater things for my life, and my new life with my husband.

This week I start part time study, part time work and in between, just relaxing and getting things done. I'm very happy to be here now, I've accepted it and know I can trust what is happening with my life. I believe this year is going to be amazing, and I'm so excited for each month, and to work on things slowly during that month.

Off to write about March soon...

xx

the war between my new iPhone 6 & my coffee.

Yesterday morning, I was ready for anything. It was my first training day at work, I'd followed all my new habits that I'm trying to apply everyday. I'd gone to make another coffee & jump into bed with my husband to chill out before a big day. We have a bed situation at the moment, we're waiting on a new bed frame from our landlord, and in the meantime we are sleeping on the floor with our mattress.

So I made my coffee, popped in on the floor, placed my iPhone on the chair above it, thinking it would sit, however it thought differently. It slid off and literally dived into my coffee cup. Ironic isn't it! Its completely gone, and all I can say is thank God for contents insurance, who cover accidents. Any phone company does NOT cover water damage which is probably the most one everyone does...

Thought I'd share my delightful day yesterday, I'm now phone less...without Instagram, but I think this maybe a good time to have without it..trying to think positive.

I will never ever do anything with a phone so closely to my coffee again. Lesson learnt.

I'm trying out a new coffee plunger brand, called Hummingbird, wow its actually incredible, its so rich and feels like you don't need a second an hour later....or maybe? I've got a full day at work today, and I'm ready to make some good sales & Ill come back and explain why this weekend for my new hometown is so massive, look it up, Art DECO WEEKEND, Napier.

Enjoy xx

Habits to become successful with your life!

Tomorrow is a whole new beginning for me. I start my new job, working back in retail, at the beautiful high end store. It's come at the most perfect timing & I'm so excited to see what lies ahead. The style of the clothing, is mostly chiffon, leather and evening dresses. They have beautiful jewellery and handbags that are sold thru their store from other brands. There are so many pieces I'd love to add to my collection, of non existent wardrobe.

I was thinking through some of the habits that I wanted to create, for my job to be successful. This year is about to get busy for me and I believe I need to make some changes happen, in order for it to be successful.
Here are four that I am currently trying to create for the next few weeks, which hopefully will become a habit.

ONE. Creating one off check lists.
Most people who are organised use a check list to get things done and to make yourself aware of the things needing done. I don't like having lists that go on for days or over a large amount of time. I love creating, well I'm starting to love, making a check lists for the day and knowing I will smash it all by the end of the day. I've given myself the ability to get through 5-7 things per day, so that I feel like I've accomplished something and can make a head start on being and feeling successful. One thing that is on my list daily, it is to clean the kitchen, making sure every dish is done and the meat is out thawing for the meal at night. Seems to be working so far.

TWO. Making my lunch the night before.
As cheesy as this sounds, when I was at my last full time teaching job, I got into a strong habit of making my lunch and snacks the night before. I found because I was organised and feeling on top of things, that I was giving my body what it really needed. For me, feeling organised and on top of things means that I eat healthier and exercise more, as I feel more in control. However when I don't organise the simplest thing like making my lunch, I feel out of control which leads to over eating or eating the wrong kinds of food. I used a Typo food weekly chart to help me figure out what I wanted to eat for dinner and what snacks I need to pop into plastic containers for the day. Lets hope this can happen again for my new job, as I believe it will help me be successful in what I do, because of how I prepare earlier.

THREE. Getting up earlier.
I've started a habit of staying in bed most of the mornings while I've had no job. As much as I've loved it, being able to blog away and watch TV in bed, I'm really excited to get into a routine again. One of the things that worked for me last time as well, was getting up an hour and a half before I had to leave for work. It gave me time to shower, go and make a strong coffee & eat breakfast without any hurry. The last thing I want before any busy day would be the idea of rushing trying to get myself sorted. Breakfast is non negotiable as it fuels me up for the next meal and as you can tell, the coffee literally makes me so excited in the mornings that I jump out of bed to go make it. Earlier the better I say, in order to be successful and on top of everything for the day.

FOUR. Keep learning.
Something I've learn't from so many successful people is that they are learners. They never stop learning about their product or what the latest research is. I believe education doesn't stop with your Degree, but it continues as you allow it to happen. Within retail, I guess a habit that I can create is always wanting to know about product knowledge, customer service and company requirements. In making a decision to always be on the look out for new material, it will set me up for being a person of excellence, and being able to help others. I believe when you set yourself up for being successful, it also helps other people with their performances, because of the knowledge that you may have that could get them thinking in a different way. As a previous teacher, we were made to never stop learning about the latest research about children and their learning, and I believe this has given me a mindset that expands over all areas to always keep learning. Another tool I've learnt even through blogging, is simply sitting under someone else's success story, and asking every question that will enhance your blog. The power of questions and answers between people and learning is very crucial, as it allows new knowledge to surface  that can be used for future purposes.

I'll let you know how the first day goes at work, and in the next three months I'll come back and review how those top four habits are going & how successful I may be feeling using them.

Off to buy some coffee, just ran out and I'd hate to not have any for the big day tomorrow. xx

"I'll have what she's having" Part Two: My Favourite Photography Blog

To carry on with "I'll have what she's having" series, I've decided to share with you just one of my favourite photographers. The reason why I wanted to show you only one of my favourite photographers,it was because of the passion that I see in her and her photos. To be honest, I don't know much about the photography community and who's doing really well, however I have got to know this wonderful lady and I love what she stands for.  Just talking with her recently, she just laid it all out saying she wanted to dedicate her whole life to taking photos and creating life with her camera. It's not everyday you hear someone talking so passionately about their life or hobby like that.

Here she is, a local and talented young lady, Ariana Leilani, what a stunner of a girl.

Heres a sneak peak from her 'about me' page.

"this blog originally started out as a space to share the travels and adventures we were embarking on with our family and friends during our time in north america & hawaii, but upon returning to new zealand in may twenty-fourteen, it didn't feel right to put a fullstop on a space that we have poured our experiences into, and force closure onto somewhere we have documented some of our most precious memories."

Ariana, has such an eye for catching those moments you may have missed. Her style is impeccable and whenever I read about her latest photography adventures, it seriously sends me into dream land. Her photo style is easy to look at, its minimalistic and very beautiful.

Herself, she's a genuine Kiwi girl, she's fun loving and is never too busy for the people in her life. Go check out her adventures, she has some stunning photos of her World travels that she did with her boyfriend.

I believe in her and her work, she's doing something different, and adds character I believe to the photography and lifestyle community. She's an incredible writer and I love her honesty about things and for what goes after in life, go see yourself.

My lazy guide to a simple Plunger coffee.

Seriously though, this can be done with your eyes closed, all the instructions for making perfected plunger coffee is always on the back of your coffee brands packet. However I wanted to show you in pictures what my morning looks like. Coffee is the thing that literally gets me out of bed, I get so excited knowing I'm about to boil that kettle and have caffeine in my veins, oh so soon!

(Step by step. The lazy guide. Enjoy.)

These are my two amazing handy plungers, glass & metal, and because I'm the only one drinking it this morning, the glass does a wonderful one cup job!

Todays plunger coffee brand is: JEDS coffee (New Zealand made), AMAZING, and on their strength code, 5 being the strongest, I always get this one. It literally wakes you up, maybe for another one, later!

One HEAPED tablespoon does the trick, in it goes, and by now the kettle was ready for it!
On big days, I usually do two tablespoons...

I LOVE this shot, it captures the moment when the hot water mixes with the roaring coffee, ready to sit for five minutes.

On goes the lid, to sit for around 5-7 minutes, as I make toast, honestly I have this routine down. Again, I could do this with my eyes closed. But thats a hazard apparently, with hot water. anyways.

That beautiful moment when all you smell is perfectly made coffee. It's ready to be poured, I'm a milk first kinda girl, then the coffee.

Now its ready to enjoyed, along with a classic Vegemite toast. This has been my routine for the past, how long. As I drink and eat, I always drift along Instagram & Bloglovin.
Easy as.

Feel free to check out my Instagram: thenextcoffee

I'm about to start a series off with, "I'll have what she's having" and todays feature is: The Makeup blogs/Vlogs that have made an impact on my life.

I'll eventually show different categories that are my top favourite blogs that have helped my life, and make it more beautiful.

Cheesy as that sounds, these blogs have showed me how to properly contour with makeup, how to make healthier dinners and how to use Pinterest to create blog traffic.
I've discovered how positive and open the blogging community is, and thats why I want to share with you what I've learnt from others and their creativity.

My favourite top three makeup blogs/Vblogs:

Essie Button.
Essential for practical tips and for displaying such beautiful new products to try out.
LOVE her displays and Vblogs, (Photo credit - essiebutton.com)

Makeup by Annalee

Even though this girl doesn't necessarily do blogs, she does youtube.com and Facebook rather well. She's a New Zealand chick, living and breathing beauty and its products. She's incredible and knows her stuff. She's genuine and has an eye for detail. Check out this fresh talent,

(Gosh, just look at her eyebrows, AMAZING!)

Shaaanxo

Okay, I think I'm biased to New Zealand Bloggers/Vloggers. This would have to be one of favourites, she's been around for ages, and shows some of the BEST budget makeup videos. I'm over girls only using high end products, in reality, who has that sort of money anyways. She's the reason why I got my eyebrows in check, contoured in line and blending in form. All thanks to:

Oh and she has her own line of eyelashes, makeup brushes and jewellery!

Go have a look around, they have so much to offer! xx

wearing his stuff...

Sometimes his stuff seems more comfy

His style seems to be a mix of everything. My husband is rather chilled when it comes to fashion. Doesn't mean he doesn't have a fashion sense, he just choose to be more relaxed to go along with his personality. This is something I've had to just understand about him, but thats what I love about my husband, nothing is a problem, and everything is chilled.

Today I wasn't going to see him all day, and come on, I'm still in the honeymoon phase, so I wanted something to be with me all day that reminded me of him. And it was his comfy oversized denim shirt that looks delicious on him. I loved it today, as I was helping cater for a function, every now and then I could still smell his cologne on the his shirt.

For the past three nights I've worn three of his tee shirts to bed, they are like nighties on me, but kinda cute, as they are his but on me. He loves it too! Win, win situation!

Here is a picture of him, something I haven't shown you yet, he's a wonderful guy and I'm so glad he's mine! You're welcome, Enjoy x

Ps, here he is wearing 'that' denim shirt, and by the way this was done for our engagement shoot, which ill post about soon! We fell in love with these shots!

FEBRUARY. a month living in Napier & being married.

This month has probably been my most important month of my life. It's seen me through, the beginning stages of my marriage, moving to new city, going through endless job applications, making/trying to make new friends, using my GPS to get everywhere around this place and it has made me realise what is really important in my life.

Yesterday a friend was sharing with me about past influences on her life, and how she has to make a daily decision to decide who she will allow in her life to speak into her, and how she can self-talk to herself to get her motivated for the day.

This really challenged me, as I've been so blessed with incredible amounts of positive people in my life, but I've come to realise that I need to let go of the old words spoken and continue to find new influences. I came to this conclusion because, in our lives we go through such different seasons and what we have been impacted yesterday, may not help us today.

Another thing that struck me, was the idea of self talk. You do it, don't lie..... The way we internally speak to ourselves, reflects how we act and treat others. The amount of people that I have come in contact with who are negative, are the ones who originally internalise negative self talk. This may be through how they see themselves in the mirror, or the comparison of others that could have clouded their own beauty.

okay that was defiantly something deep there. However I just love investigating what peoples strengths and weaknesses are, as it helps me understand how they work or feel about certain things. I guess its me trying to understand people, that gets me thinking and trying to understand why they talk and interact with me in that way. At the end of the day, everyone has a story to tell, that either makes them a better person, or slowly kills them internally.

Three things that have changed my life this month:

1. My husband, he is my source of encouragement and humour. He is forever trying to push my buttons, he is always finding ways to change my mood and making me just chill out a little. Especially the art of sleeping in & watching endless movies.

2. Thankfulness, I've made myself every day pick five new things I am thankful for and try to find a ways to repay that thing or person. The main source that I have been thankful for, are my girlfriends from Wellington, and in Tauranga. I've made myself set aside time to either text or ring my girlfriends. Every time I make contact with these girls, I've seen my happiness actually become something so real, not something you think is cute. That happiness is reflected in how I live and how I continue to be thankful for other things in my life.

3. The incredible online community of blogging. Everyone is so supportive, and everyone just wants to help you out. The endless emails and comments through Pinterest, Bloglovin and blogs have opened my eyes to see blogging as something so positive. Seeing others achieve greatly with their blogs is inspiring and ill always be thankful for others leading ahead, and showing how its done. This is where original envy should be turned into appreciating others work and admiring how they go there.

Heres a random coffee fact for you:

Coffee beans are actually the pit of a berry, which makes them a fruit. The best fruit.

So far... a week in.

Two things, I'm going to share with you why I started blogging & my top 3 websites that have given me the best inspiration and consistency in the process.

I like to research everything. If I don't understand a particular word or idea, I usually google until I fully can understand or be able to use that thing within my day.

I guess the reason why I have a blog now, is because I'm in such a different part of my life. I'm married, living in a new city and my career is changing slightly; with a side of study. I can't go a day without writing, if it's a day where a lot has happened and a lot of change takes place, I have to get it down on a piece of paper. Lists and pro and cons have worked so well in the past for future decisions and I guess this is the next step.

I gave a lot of thought and a lot of research into how a blog works. I read every Pinterest post you could think of from SEO, Blogger vs Wordpress, 101 blog posts when you're in a rut, and how to get traffic onto your blog. Also I took the initiative to ask a few girlfriends who have a blog up and running, asking what tips they would give a new blogger and what they wish they knew from the beginning. In the end, I had to decide what worked for me, and learn how it all works.

Coffee is the main theme of this blog, however its the things that happen during and especially after coffee that I want to document and ponder over. Its a mix of my favourite cafes and exploration of my new city as well as the latest little thought that had stuck with me all day.

These three websites helped shape my own idea of how to write & start a blog.

1. Simplytaralynn.com -  is a blog I've been following for the past 4 years, she's recently changed her site and is expanding her whole blog. She was just a blog in the beginning about her weight loss and now she's heavily into travel, photography and cooking. She's an inspiration and makes it look easily fun! Definitely one of the reasons why I started blogging this week.

2. Pinterest.com - been the ultimate 101 guide to blogging. Searching everything from how to use googles blog system, how to create an outstanding & last blog, as well as looking up other blogs for inspiration. Would have to be the go to for all the beginning stages and research. It was probably the better search guide compared to google itself. It showed me links to youtube videos for knowing how to create the beginning stages of the blog themes, something I found surprisingly hard.

3. Bloglovin.com - A friend emailed me an invite ages ago to this website, but only remembered mid way this week and started to navigate around. It's such an incredible tool to use to find other bloggers with the same passions and direction. Its crazy to think how many other bloggers there are out there, and easily I've had to stop getting the green eye for it all. However its such a wonderful way to get yourself out in the blogging community, and to connect with the people that inspire you.

those little things I love...

The things I like, change a lot, probably as often as the waves. There's so much I appreciate about life and my styling, to my liking changes quite frequently. I don't think I'm one to chop and change to what others are wearing or saying; but it's my perspective that changes to what I like in the moment.

The little things I love is something consistent. I sat down with a cup of coffee... what a surprise, and wrote out the rough top nine "little things that I love". I guess its the warmth of those things that give me a wonderful feeling, and stay around.
Here goes:

1. Waking up to find I still have my favourite coffee to use up.
- its the best feeling, knowing you still have enough to get you awake enough to start the glorious day.

2. Fresh flowers and candles around the house. The beautiful fresh smell to the house, sends off positive energy and creativity.
- the local fruit and vege markets are bound to always have fresh flowers for sale for such a great price.
-top favourite brands for candles that I can't live without, Ecoya & Glasshouse.

3. Receiving mail, actually this applies to all mail, could be personal or business. Just seeing my new last name gets me every time.
-personal, hand written mail is old fashioned, but so intimate. To know your loved one took the time out to write to you, definitely makes you appreciate their love for you.

4. Feeling completely comfortable with someone.
- There are so many levels to relationships and friendships, and to know you can go for coffee with those dear friends, that you don't have to explain yourself or force that laugh. It all is natural and time easily flies past as you hangout. Such a good feeling, to be yourself, say whatever you need to say & not feel judged for it.

5. The new smell of stationary
-Gets me every time! Oh I miss university and high school, for the sake of every year knowingly you can purchase shiny new books and pens.
-I'm studying this year, and the idea of buying new stationary excites me so much! The smell and the feel of it all, is thrilling. Go a head, call me a geek. Those simple things hey!

6. Apologising and resolving an issue with someone.
- Although confrontation can at the time feel awkward and hard, I'm okay with getting through the hard bit, knowing good can come from the conversation. Its the best feeling, knowing you have said your piece and have come to a conclusion. Walking away from resolution, always makes me so happy, and that if I could get through this, anything else is possible.

7. The window seat on an airplane.
- being able to see the taking off, landing and the mid cloud actions is such a thrill. Knowing that you're in a small plane above such a big world, it always changes my perspective. Although I have found the window seat is best when I fly domestic, not international, for when you need to pee all the time.

8. Going somewhere, knowing your agenda is clear for the rest of the day.
- Especially, the beach or the cafes. Having this time off has made me appreciate the time we have when we do have it.
-It's made me realise that I need to clear some space within my schedule when I figure out work and study, for those unhurried moments in life.

9. Fresh bed sheets. Gets me every time.
- It's ultimate feeling after a long day, knowing you can slip between your newly tight folded sheets and snuggle into that feather duvet and your perfect amount of pillows.

those little things I love.... and appreciate.

Enjoy x
